Bryn Johnson — 5/5 (via Google)
Finding a reliable barber in Seattle is notoriously difficult, so I was thrilled to finally get an appointment at Old Habits. My stylist, Trent, seemed like exactly the kind of guy you want cutting your hair—shaved head, full sleeves of heavy tattoos, and a very focused, no-nonsense energy. For the first twenty minutes, it was just a genuinely excellent, detail-oriented haircut. I had the last slot of the day, right as the Seattle gloom turned pitch black outside, and the shop was completely empty. As he kept working, the vibe in the room started to shift. Trent moves with a calculated, absolute silence. He also speaks in this low, rhythmic cadence that is unnervingly hypnotic; I found myself getting incredibly dizzy and pliable just listening to him casually complain about how much the neighborhood has changed since the 1890s. When he gripped my head to adjust my angle for the fade, the casual, unyielding strength in his hands was terrifying. It was the heavy, immovable grip of an apex predator. His hands were also freezing. Not cold from the sink—a deep, unnatural, dead cold. My fight-or-flight response fully kicking in, I looked straight ahead into the mirror to ground myself. I could physically feel his tattooed arm pressing my shoulder down. I could feel those icy fingers against my scalp. But in the glass? Just me. Sitting entirely alone in the chair, pinned down by empty space. My brain completely short-circuited. Then came the straight razor. An invisible, freezing hand tilted my chin back, fully exposing my jugular. I swear I felt two impossibly sharp points pierce my pulse just a fraction of a second before the actual steel blade touched my skin. Everything went a little fuzzy after that. I don't really remember the walk home, but honestly? It's the best blending I’ve ever had. He completely fixed my cowlick. I've had to switch to the graveyard shift because the daylight suddenly gives me a blistering migraine, and my neck is still a bit sore, but I've never felt more alive. It’s just a real shame I can't admire this phenomenal fade in my own bathroom mirror anymore. Five stars. Tipped 30%. See you next month after sundown, Trent.

I love this place! Trent was my first real barber and I've been going to him for 3 years. I used to go to Great Clips and they made my hair kind of weird so I decided to pay a little more, go somewhere nicer, and get a better cut. I remember meeting Trent and saying, "Just do what you think would look nice." and he fixed my hair. Ever since then, I'm gonna stick with Old Habits for as long as I can. In general though, they do really good fades here and the decor is awesome!

Old Habits is filled with very talented barbers who take their jobs seriously. Their customers are loyal and follow them from location to location. The space has a modern, industrial, quirky style that’s filled with plants and great music. You might even grab yourself a drink from the cooler while you wait. I drive to SODO from downtown Seattle because my haircut is consistently worth it. Just make sure to book your appointment ahead of time because the barbers here tend to be very popular—I book my appointments in bulk for several months at a time. Trust me, you’ll love it here.

Super happy to have found this spot. 100% my new barber. Lindsey is great at cutting hair. Totally fair price for what she does. I only wanted a trim / thin out my longer curly hair she did amazing. Super cool little spot and very cool vibe. She is great to chat with while you receive an amazing haircut. 10/10. Will absolutely be returning.
